Adi Kailash is one of the abodes of Lord Shiva in the Himalayas. It is known as Chhota Kailash and second Dham of Panch Kailash. It is the home of Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati along with their children Ganpati Ji and Kartikeya Ji. Adi Kailash is related to Shiva and is considered very sacred in Hinduism.

According to legends, Ravana came from the south to worship here and was blessed by Almighty Shiva with the strength of 20 arms and 10 heads. He was one of the biggest admirers of Lord Shiva. Also, Pandavas had stayed here with Sage Vyasa and meditated for a long period.

Adi Kailash and Om Parvat are located in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. Dharchula is the nearest town. The highest altitude on the Adi Kailash & Om Parvat Yatra that people go to is Parvati Sarovar which is 5,245 meters above sea level.

In Adi Kailash Yatra, you get darshan of three more holy peaks. The Brahma Parvat, Annapurna Parvat and Naag-Naagin Parvat. Another major attraction is the Parvati Sarovar or Gauri Kund at the foot of Adi Kailash.

It is said that Adi Kailash & Om Parvat Yatra washes away the sins, thus restoring the Karma cycle. The cosmic energy that is prevalent here will make you feel transformed.

Adi Kailash and Om Parvat are not the same.

Mount Kailash Darshan also included. Totally depends on weather, road conditions and Authorities.

Adi Kailash: Adi Kailash is a replica of Mount Kailash. Height of Adi Kailash is 5,945 meters (19,505 ft) above sea level.  Adi Kailash is a very peaceful place and center of spirituality for thousands of Shiva devotees. It is a popular pilgrimage of Shiva devotees.

Om Parvat: During the Adi Kailash Yatra, there is a visit to Om Parvat. Om is naturally inscribed in eight mountains on earth, of which only one has been discovered and that is Om Parvat. Snow falls on this mountain in such a way that when looking at it, it seems as if someone himself had written Om with his own hand.

Om Parvat is located near Nabhi Dhang. Om Parvat peak elevation is 5,590 meters (18,340 ft) above sea level.

The weather best suits Adi Kailash yatra during May & June and September & October. It is the most pleasant time as the weather and temperature both will be in your favor. Monsoon season is not recommended to do Adi Kailash and Om Parvat yatra in any case.

Health & Fitness

Trekking demands strong cardiovascular endurance, leg power, core stability, and overall stamina to handle long hours on steep, uneven, and rocky terrain. Depending on the difficulty level, trekkers should ideally be capable of jogging 4–7 km in 20–40 minutes.

Preparing your body in advance significantly enhances safety, performance, and enjoyment during the trek.

Core Physical Fitness Requirements

1. Cardiovascular Endurance

Strong heart and lung capacity are essential, especially for high-altitude treks where oxygen levels are lower.

Training Goal:

  • 30–60 minutes of cardio
  • 4–5 days per week
  • Activities: Jogging, running, brisk walking, swimming, or cycling

2. Leg Strength

Powerful legs are crucial for ascending steep slopes and descending uneven, rocky paths.

Focus Exercises:

  • Squats
  • Lunges
  • Step-ups
  • Calf raises

3. Core & Upper Body Strength

A strong core and upper body help you carry a backpack comfortably for extended hours.

Recommended Exercises:

  • Planks
  • Push-ups
  • Overhead presses
  • Back extensions

4. Flexibility & Stamina

Flexibility reduces muscle stiffness, prevents injury, and improves endurance.

Include:

  • Yoga
  • Dynamic stretching before workouts
  • Static stretching post-workout

Training & Preparation Tips

Stair Climbing

One of the most effective ways to simulate trekking conditions. It prepares you for both ascent and descent.

Load Training

Practice walking with a weighted backpack to replicate real trek conditions.

Rest & Recovery

Allow proper recovery time. Include at least 1–2 rest days per week to prevent overtraining.

Health Check-Up

Consult a medical professional before high-altitude treks, especially if you have:

  • Asthma
  • Hypertension
  • Heart conditions
  • Respiratory concerns

Sample Weekly Training Plan (Example)

Monday / Wednesday / Friday
→ 30–45 minutes brisk walk, jogging, or uphill walking

Tuesday / Thursday
→ Strength training (Squats, Lunges, Planks, Push-ups)

Saturday
→ Long-duration hike or extended stair-climbing session

Sunday
→ Rest day or light stretching / yoga

Key Preparation Goals

  • Build endurance to comfortably carry a weighted backpack for 3–4 hours
  • Achieve the ability to jog 5 km in under 30 minutes (for moderate treks)
  • Begin structured training 4–8 weeks before your trek
