  • The Caucasus Mountains are a mountain range at the intersection of Asia and Europe

Overview

This 7-day Ladakh itinerary is a comprehensive journey designed to balance sightseeing with the crucial requirement of high-altitude acclimatization. The adventure begins in Leh (11,500 ft) with a mandatory two-day stay, ensuring travelers adjust before embarking on mountain crossings. Day 1 is dedicated to arrival and rest, while Day 2 explores the beautiful Sham Valley, including the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers at Sangam, the historic Leh Palace, and a serene sunset view from Shanti Stupa.

The heart of the expedition begins on Day 3 with the crossing of the formidable Khardung La Pass (17,580 ft), leading into the captivating Nubra Valley. Here, the itinerary highlights the towering Maitreya Buddha statue at Diskit Monastery and the unique experience of riding double-humped (Bactrian) camels on the Hunder sand dunes. Day 4 offers a scenic excursion to Turtuk, the northernmost village known for its distinct Balti culture, providing a glimpse into a community that became part of India in 1971. The journey continues to the iconic Pangong Tso (The Blue Lake) on Day 5 via the picturesque Shyok route, where an overnight camp stay allows travelers to witness the lake’s famous color-changing waters. Finally, Day 6 involves the return to Leh via the challenging Chang La Pass (17,500 ft), featuring visits to the magnificent Thiksey Monastery and Shey Palace, concluding the loop before a Day 7 departure from Leh Airport. The tour successfully covers all major Ladakh landmarks and high passes.
